Out of the Sewers and onto Escape – The Second Part of Riddick’s Escape in ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay’ Video Game
“Riddick” is the main player character of the highly popular video game ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay’. He is strong, stealthy and resourceful, and his aim is to escape the maximum security prison of Butcher’s Bay. A first person game that prioritizes stealth, it is a “break out of prison” game in the most basic sense of definition.
The other notable characters that tie into (this next part of) the video game’s story line are Abbott, the prison guard, William Johns, the bounty hunter who’d captured and sent Riddick to this high security hell-hole of a prison, and Hoxie, the prison warden.
As a first person, role playing game, ‘Gone Home’ deviates from the norm by basing its premise on an adventure than unravels at its own pace in the form of a story about the family members of “The Psycho House”. However, this deviation hasn’t reduced anything from the game, if the great critic reviews about the game is anything to go by. If anything, this video game purports the importance and power of a great story line in a video game, and also shows that it isn’t only blood, gore and shooting that rules the show in the gaming world.
“Gone Home” is an adventure video game that is designed in the style of an interactive and investigative story game. It is a first person, role playing video game, and in Gone Home, the player takes on the Role of Kaitlin, who has just returned home after a year’s trip abroad. This video game received critical acclaim for its story line and interactive gameplay – but particularly for its engaging and intricate story line. The video game’s world is set approximately in the year 1995, and the main premise of the game is to explore the family mansion that Kaitlin has just arrived at. The player, as Kaitlin, will have to examine and interact with various household items around the manor and uncover the story and many implied family secrets about the members of Kaitlin’s family.
Into the Sewers – The First Part of Riddick’s Escape in ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay’ Video Game
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher’s Bay is a game that focusses on stealth and action. It is a first person, role playing video game set in a futuristic world, and it is a tie-in to the movie “Chronicles of Riddick”. This video game falls squarely into the categories of science-fiction video games and action video games.
The game basically follows the story of Riddick, an anti-hero, as he tries to escape from “Butcher’s Bay”, which is a maximum security prison. In order to separate this game from the movie however, the game designers focussed more in the character of Riddick and his imprisonment and consequent escape attempts. So it is basically a “break out of prison” game.
‘Gone Home’, like the title of this article states, is an interactive video game that investigates the story of Kaitlin’s family. The game works by the player guiding the main player character ‘Kaitlin’ through her family house and look at objects that slowly unravel the story and various details of her family, along with information about the house itself. The game received critical acclaim for its engaging story line. And the relationships hinted at and described in this game are touching, mesmerising, and even tragic, depending on how one sees it. This is truly interactive story telling at its finest! Continue reading “‘Gone Home’ – An Interactive, Investigative Story Game that Highlights Relationships” »

The Mines, the Triple-Max, and the Final Escape Attempt – The Final Part of Riddick’s Escape in ‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay’ Video Game
‘The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay’ is a popular video game that squarely falls in the action and adventure genres of video games. Set in a futuristic world on a desolate planet that houses a maximum security prison called “Butcher Bay”, this is a first person, role play video game that focusses ten times more on stealth and tactics in its game design rather than on fire power.
